Hemlock #40

This is a 10x10 original painting on a 2-in thick cradled wood panel.

This painting has lots of texture! The stylized color of the bark is mesmerizing to look at. Almost as much as the tree itself. The tree was approximately 8 ft in diameter. I could not believe it's size! It was huge. 

This is the painting of an endangered hemlock in the rainbow lake area of signal mountain, Tennessee. I took the reference image on a hike and when I came upon one of these giants I noticed that it had a number spray painted on it. I was mesmerized by this. Came straight home and painted this photograph.

It needs to go into the hands of someone who protects these beloved hemlocks. Sadly they will not be around much longer.
